In a Persian home, the table fills up before the main course ever arrives. Little bowls of dips, salads and warm bites are passed from hand to hand while everyone catches up. That is the idea behind our new mazeh quartets at Le Flamant Rose, the French-Persian restaurant and café on the Dubai Creek Harbour promenade. Each one brings four small plates to the table, made for sharing.
What is mazeh?
Mazeh (or mezze) is the Persian and Middle Eastern tradition of small plates served together, so everyone can try a little of everything. At Le Flamant Rose we have grouped our favourites into four quartets: one cold, one warm, one built around Persian yoghurt and one from the sea. The habit is the same across the region: food is for sharing, and nobody should leave the table hungry.
Cold Mazeh Quartet, AED 79
Fresh and bright, this is the one to start with. It brings together:
Tabbouleh, fresh and herby
Shirazi salad, zesty with cucumber and tomato
Hummus, smooth and creamy
Salad Olivieh, the much-loved Persian potato salad
Warm Mazeh Quartet, AED 99
For something more comforting, the warm quartet is full of smoky, home-style flavours:
Kashk-e bademjan, smoky aubergine with kashk
Mirza ghasemi, tomato and smoked aubergine
Tender meatballs

Persian Yoghurt Quartet, AED 79
Yoghurt sits at the heart of the Persian table, and this quartet celebrates it with four creamy dips: cucumber, spinach, shallot and aubergine. They are cool, fresh and lovely next to anything from the grill. Spoon them next to rice and kebab, the way it is done at home.
Seafood Mazeh Royale, AED 109
Our most indulgent quartet brings the sea to the table:

How to order them
Start with one quartet, or for a group, mix a cold and a warm quartet, add the yoghurt dips, and let everyone dig in. Not sure where to begin? Our team is always happy to suggest a mix for your table. The quartets also pair well with our charcoal kebabs and slow-cooked lamb if you want to turn them into a full Persian feast. Mazeh is made for long, easy evenings. Take a table on our terrace and watch the lights come up across Dubai Creek Harbour while the plates keep coming, or settle into the air-conditioned dining room on warmer days. Because we are open until 1 AM, the quartets work just as well for a late bite after a walk along the promenade as they do for a relaxed weekend lunch with family and friends.

Yes. The Persian Yoghurt Quartet, with its cucumber, spinach, shallot and aubergine dips, is meat-free. For anything else, just ask our team about the ingredients.
